9:30 Session I: Country Updates

Suggested Scope of Presentations:

  • A brief summary of recent changes in the country's energy sector, including a description of recent key changes in energy supply and demand.
  • An update, if useful, on national concerns regarding energy and environmental security, and presentation of national plans (in general) to address those concerns, focusing on any changes in plans or government/popular approaches to energy and environmental security since the last meeting.
  • An update on work completed on the national LEAP Reference, National Alternative, and Regional Alternative Paths, including a summary of the assumptions and methods used to model the impacts the Paths on the national energy sector, as well as a summary of key changes made to the national LEAP model since the Beijing EAEF/AES meeting in May, 2004. This will include a brief presentation of the final results of the Regional Alternative Path and other paths as completed in early 2005, as well as a discussion of challenges encountered in the modeling effort.
  • Reviews of the status of district heating, energy efficiency, and emergency fuel storage/sharing initiatives in the country.
  • Suggestions and comments related to the ideas regarding the modeling of a "Revised National Alternative" path as provided by Nautilus in late April, 2005.
  • Any special topics of concern to the country that bear upon the modeling or implementation of a Revised National Alternative path (and the energy cooperation activities that it includes).
  • Other topics, analysis, conclusions, or "next steps" that you feel will be of interest to the ongoing AES project effort.

Suggested presentation length: 45 - 55 minutes, with an additional 10 to 20 minutes for questions. Titles shown below are currently tentative.

NOTE: The intent is that this Working Session be used by participants as an opportunity to present specific aspects of their datasets and National or Regional Alternative Paths that they particularly want group feedback on and/or wish to ask questions about. This time also could be used to work on datasets with the help of other participants and trainers, or to receive additional training in LEAP, as well as to consider ways of integrating AES 2005 topics into existing National Alternative and Regional Alternative Paths. In some cases participants will work in small groups, and in some cases the whole group may review a LEAP dataset on the overhead screen. Participants should come to this session prepared to present their dataset, ask questions, and request assistance on whatever modeling questions they have, and with a specific LEAP task or tasks to complete during the Working Session.
