LAWRIE, Ann - Associate Professor

Ann is a mycologist and botanist, and her interests lie in the impact of climate change on the environment, and particularly the projected changes in biodiversity and disease, and how we can adapt.

LOWE, Tom - Mr.

Tom has worked for the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research in the UK before joining RMIT. His research has been concentrated upon decision-making for adaptation under conditions of environmental change. In particular he has investigated public perceptions of climate change and other environmental risks and the development of appropriate risk communication strategies that may encourage appropriate adaptation. Tom is also researching human security issues, his focus is upon social, cultural, demographic and environmental transition in urban areas and their influence upon community resilience to natural hazards. The Centre for Risk & Community Safety looks at community vulnerability and resilience to natural hazards such as wildfires, flooding, earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunami.

MACNAE, James - Professor

James works on geologic analysis of absolute versus relative sea level rise and urban vulnerability.

MALLER, Cecily - Dr.

Cecily is involved in an ARC funded project titled 'Carbon Neutral Communities /Social Learning and Behaviour Change'.

MEEHAN, Barry - Associate Professor

Barry and his group carry out research at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels looking into strategies to recover wastes (mainly water and biosolids generated in water treatment). They also look at the effects of these wastes on the environment when reused. For instance they have looked at the impact of grey water and reclaimed water on the productivity of soils. All of these activities are related to responses to lower rainfall and the urgent need to better manage freshwater resources in the face of changing climates.

MERCER, Dave - Associate Professor

Dave works on a range of issues involved in creating sustainable cities. He looks at water, urban form, environmental policy, natural resource management and social impact assessment issues for cities across Asia-Pacific.

MINIFIE, Paul - Mr.

Paul is a practicing architect who is interested in innovation and Green Building Design.

MOLONEY, Susie - Dr.

Susie is involved in an ARC funded project titled 'Carbon Neutral Communities /Social Learning and Behaviour Change'.

MULLIGAN, Martin - Dr.

Martin specialises in community building, working with communities to build their sense of place, resilience and sustainability. This includes helping communities to discuss the possible impact of climate change in their areas, the actions that could be taken for adaptation and to develop adaptation plans accordingly. He has been undertaking this type of work in the Hamilton Region of Victoria. He has also helped communities to look at water issues and to consider the cultural dimensions of water-focused adaptive strategies in urban communities.

NORMAN, Barbara - Ms.

Barbara has been involved in research into the risks climate change poses to coastal cities and adaptation actions that will be required. Her research interests include sustainable development, strategic planning, coastal planning and management and urban public policy. She is currently completing a PhD examining governance arrangements for sustainable development on the Australian coast.

NUGEGODA, Dayanthi - Associate Professor

Dayanthi has a focus on aquatic ecotoxicology, pesticides, trace metals, endocrine disrupting chemicals and their effects on fish and invertebrates. She does biomonitoring of environmental contamination using fish and invertebrates in water and earthworms in soil. She has developed toxicity tests using Australian species and uses enzymes and hormones as biomarkers of environmental exposure to xenobiotics. Dayanthi has also worked on the effects of dryland salinity on freshwater ecosystems and the bioremediation of metal contaminated and salinised sites.
